Tapio Wirkkala (1915–1985) was a leading figure in modern Finnish applied art, and his glass, ceramic, wood and silver objects charmed international design circles in the 1950s and 1960s, while laying the foundation for the triumphs of Finnish design.
The Magic North 18.6.-27.9.2015
Finnish and Norwegian art in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was strongly influenced by Symbolism. Instead of the real world, artists were inspired by myths, legends and the direct relationships between people and nature. This joint exhibition by Ateneum and the Norwegian National Museum presents major works by leading artist such as Edvard Munch, Gerhard Munthe, Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Hugo Simberg and Theodor Kittelsen.
