Idyllic cafes in Helsinki

There are many cozy and unique cafes in Helsinki area. Some of them are open all year round, and some are open only during the summer season. We have listed a few of our favourites here.

Ihana cafe (address Nihtikuja, Sompasaari)

Ihana Kahvila & shop is located on the southern tip of Kalasatama area. The café is built in a sea container, and the surroundings are very urban and unique. The Café is open from the beginning of June till the end of August from Tuesday until Sunday 10-19, depending on the weather. You can take a nap in a hammock and enjoy a refreshing seaside view. The café is child and dog friendly, so you can come here with the whole family to enjoy the spirit of the former harbour area.

Cafe Regatta (address Merikannontie 8)

Cafe Regatta is located by the sea in Töölö, between Sibelius Park and the Rowing Stadium. The café is open year around. In summer the sun warms comfortably, and in winter it is nice to warm up under a blanket by the campfire. The red living room right by the sea is a really idyllic place to enjoy a delicious cinnamon bun, salmon sandwich, fresh coffee or other refreshments. You can also buy sausages from the café for grilling on the yard. This cafe is also dog friendly.

Café Regatta is open every day of the year.

Café Blue Villa (address Linnunlauluntie 11 H)

This café is called Sinisen Huvilan Kahvila in Finnish, and it is a charming open-air café in the courtyard of the Sininen Huvila which was built in 1896. The café is located on a hill on the shores of Töölö Bay (Töölönlahti), and offers great views. In addition to the coffee and soup of the day, the café offers savory and sweet delicacies, ice cream, and a selection of specialty coffees are available alongside traditional coffee. Here you can spend a moment in beautiful, relaxing environment right by the city centre. The cafe is also dog friendly.

Café Torpedo (address Mustikkamaa, Mustikkamaantie 5)

Cafe Torpedo is an arrow boat number 5 built at the Turku boat sculpture in 1962, and it has been one of the thirteen torpedo vessels of the Finnish Defense Forces. The current owners bought the vessel from Sweden in 2009 and it was opened for café use in 2015. The Torpedo is an atmospheric café ship and offers savory and sweet snacks and refreshments; as well as wine, beer, sparkling wine etc. Barbecue evenings are also organized during summer season.

Café Siili (address Ilmattarentie 8 C)

In the heart of Puu-Käpylä – which is a nice district of wooden houses – a small café expands into the courtyard of a house and welcomes smaller, slightly larger and even more hairy guests with its warmth. Café Siili (Hedgehog) is one of the best lunch and brunch places in the city; in addition to great food, quality wines are also available. Café Siili is open every day 9-19 until 10.8.

Café Siili is located in Puu-Käpylä district.
